There was no distinction between the people who practised different religions and customs and speak different languages, he said.
He said that piety had different meanings for different people and it was none of "our business" to interpret for others.
He said that those, who were killing people to perpetuate their interpretation of Islam, had nothing to do with Islam and should be termed as terrorists.
He called upon the Muslim Ummah to shun difference and be united at this time of trial when the forces against Islam were bent upon to equate Islam with terrorism.
He said that the Ummah with its conduct and interaction with other religious community should portray Islamic teaching in its true sense.
He said that Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA)sacrificed his life and the lives of his companions away from Makkah, Madina or any other populated place to confront Yazid so that large scale massacre did not take place. He chose a desolated place known as Karbala to embrace martyrdom so that people at large were not affected by the tragedy, he added.
After the Majlis, a procession of Alam and Tazia was taken out which, after passing through its traditional routes, terminated at Hussanian Iranian, Kharadar.
Throughout early morning, smaller processions had been coming to Nishtar Park and merging in the bigger procession.
Throughout the route of the procession, beginning from Nishtar Park, Old Exhibition, M. A. Jinnah Road, Empress Market, Saddar, Regal Chauk, Tibbet Centre again on M. A. Jinnah Road, Richmond Veterinary Hospital, Bolton Market and Kharadar, there were strict arrangements to ensure peaceful passage of the procession.
On either sides of the main route, Sabils were set up where Sharbet was distributed. At places, food was distributed among the mourners.
The mourners recited Nauha, Na'at, Manqabat and Marsia at selected places. They also offered Zoharain near Tibbet Centre.
The city administration had taken steps to ensure law and order situation in the city. All sensitive places were guarded and law-enforcement personnel in civvies were deputed along side the route of the processions.
Rooftops of all buildings that were in the way of the procession were vacated and only police and rangers were stationed there.
Ambulances, including Edhi Ambulance Service, were deputed to provide first aid to the mourners.
The city traffic police had drawn a plan to regulate vehicular traffic and diversions were indicated at different places. The diversions worked well and no traffic congestion took place throughout the day.
